A keyhole is an instrument of sight before it is a lock. You look through it to learn what the next room holds. Coaching works the same way: awareness first, then the turn of the key.
Executives in transition frequently assume the barrier is out there — a board, a market, a difficult colleague. Those constraints are real. They are rarely the whole story. The more durable lock is the identity that got you here and now quietly refuses to let you through.
The work is not to force the door. It is to see it clearly enough that a different action becomes obvious.
